Recently, David and I discussed on the podcast how e-discovery project managers can update their skills to be more marketable both within their current company or while looking for a new opportunity. EDPMs are often tasked with the responsibility of training their litigation teams on workflows, processes, and technology. Thanks to the continuing pandemic, many are still working remotely, so gathering everyone for training can be difficult when we are all “zoomed out.” While “YouTube University” is a powerful resource, it does not take into consideration the nuances of your case or project. I recommend three tools to develop custom learning content for your e-discovery teams: Camtasia (by Techsmith), Canva, and Articulate 360.

Camtasia is great for technology training because it allows you to create screen captures with voice-over so that you do not necessarily have to be on camera. You can also import other video clips into your project to produce something that looks professional.  I like Canva because I can create meme-style graphics with definitions of terms that I want my team to learn and create YouTube video intro graphics.  Canva also is an excellent resource for developing professionally designed training materials. Articulate 360’s website has a ton of free resources that I talk about on the podcast. This software is designed for creating content for your company’s learning management system, and I highly recommend learning the basics to work with your corporate training team more effectively. Learning about the tools that your firm’s trainers are using helps you delegate or develop learning resources for your team. As a subject matter expert, you are the best person for identifying which content will be most beneficial for your team.  As a life-long learner, you will demonstrate to your boss that you are interested in ensuring the entire team is successful.
